ANTI-AGING TIPS TO MANAGE CHANGING SKIN FOR WOMEN OVER 50: AGING GRACEFULLY SERIES PART 2

Anti-aging skincare tips to manage changing skin for women over 50. Aging Gracefully Series (Part 2). If you did not read my first blog post regarding this topic, please check it out here...I will wait for you to return.

Now that you're back, after reading the first installation, you understand the importance of taking time out to practice self care...self love to the one and only...you! Next we are going to expand on our self care journey and focus on our skin.

While I did not neglect my skin over the years, I did not necessarily have a routine that I practiced on a daily basis. However knowing what I know now and as the mother of two adult daughters, my advice to them is to absolutely pay attention to their skin, devise a skin care plan and do it daily including applying sunscreen. Now, as a woman over the age of 50, I take skincare serious.

So, what happens as we "age gracefully"? The appearance of the face and neck typically changes with age. Your body stops making as much collagen. Loss of muscle tone and thinning skin gives the face a flabby or drooping look. Your skin also dries out (due to hormonal changes) and the underlying layer of fat shrinks so that your face may not have a plump, smooth surface. This of course leads to the appearance of...wrinkles.

My first words of advice, DO NOT give up! This is the time to give it all you have!

  • When faced with life changing situations like this, we can begin to go down the road of negativity. However, instead of viewing the situation as a negative occurrence, try to find a way to look at it from a positive perspective. Try to think about the things in your life that you are thankful for. In fact I suggest you get out your journal and write a list of 10 things in your life that bring you joy. It is important to refocus your thought pattern. Remember, aging is a gift.

  • After focusing on the positive, it is time to accept the changes and come up with a skincare plan-of-action.

Before moving on to more invasive surgical procedures, consider opting for very good over-the-counter products that can help enhance your natural beauty by rejuvenating your skin. I will share the types of products that work for my skin but remember, this is my opinion.

As a woman over age 50, I made it a point to research and understand the changes taking place with my aging skin. I ultimately determined a few essential products to routinely use. The first product is a good hyaluronic acid serum. This product is used as a humectant — a substance that helps the skin hold onto water. In an articled about the product benefits, it stated, hyaluronic acid can significantly decrease the depth of wrinkles and enhance skin firmness and elasticity (read article here). Overall, it hydrates the outer layers of skin, thereby improving the skin's appearance. It is also important to add a moisturizer that targets fine lines and wrinkles. It is also important to add a good neck treatment.

Listed below are a few recommendations (for more information, click on the product), some that I use and have had good results and others that are highly rated (may contain affiliate links ).

HYALURONIC ACID SERUMS FOR AGING SKIN

MOISTURIZERS FOR AGING SKIN

NECK TREATMENT FOR AGING SKIN

My final words of advice in the aging gracefully process is, don't give up...I repeat...don't give up on you! Love who you see staring back at you in the mirror! Thank you for reading what will be a series on how I embrace the aging process. You deserve to be the very best version of yourself from a mind, body and soul perspective.
